JULY 2009 HOLLYWOOD COMMUNITY POLICE STATION UPDATES, Vol. VII, No. 7
Several events in June greatly impacted the Hollywood Community. The passing’s of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and untimely death of music icon Michael Jackson brought an end to an era. We pause for a moment to reflect on their lives and integral contributions to the world of entertainment.
I want to give you advance notice by announcing that on August 4, 2009, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., Hollywood Community Police Station will participate in the 2009 National Night Out. The National Night Out is celebrated by millions of neighborhoods across the country, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
This program promotes police-community partnerships to help create safe and vibrant neighborhoods, and to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness. With approximately 1,000 members of the community expected to attend this media event, all residential and business communities in Hollywood will benefit from this organized showing of solidarity against crime. I look forward to seeing you here at Hollywood Station.
Hollywood Area crime statistics for the period covered between 5/31/09 and 6/27/09 showed that violent crime decreased 12 % and property crimes decreased 27 %. Overall arrests have increased 3%. With the combination of hard work of our officers and partnership with the community, our continued expectation is to make our community flourish and out of harm's way.
Thank you for your continuing support and please let me know if I can help in any way.
All my best,
The Sunset Cruiser Task Force has been flowing along smoothly. Not so good for would be criminals and DUI (Driving Under the Influence) Violators. Thanks to all that have stopped by and supported the Officers.
It is definitely fire season. We need to clear all dried out vegetation and debris that could fuel a fire. Take advantage of the email@example.com site. Many helpful tips.
I have received many complaints of people smoking and discarding hot ashes along with lit cigarette butts from their vehicles. "Please don't enforce," as some people tend to get embarrassed or angered and lash out. If you can, send me the area of concern, time of day most frequent and possible license plates. I will forward the information to our Community Traffic services Unit (Motorcycles.) If the violators are local, I will pay them a visit and educate them on the Vehicle Codes and fire safety in our canyons.
BURGLARY FROM VEHICLES
Do not leave anything of value in plain sight! Park in well lit areas. Lock the doors. Report all suspicious vehicles and people.
We need to watch our neighbors property as well as our own. Report all suspicious vehicles, sales persons, construction workers etc... Again, I send out an open invitation to have your property inspected. Watch out after each other and keep me informed.
It's hot summer nights and people want to have parties. There are some that abuse this night after night until early morning hours. If you are having a party, please be considerate of your neighbors. If you are confronted with loud parties, you can call 1-877-ASK-LAPD and then send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Include the address or location of where the loud party is; estimated number of guests and main complaint.
On Tuesday, August 4th between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Hollywood Division will participate in National Night Out. National Night Out is celebrated by millions of neighborhoods across the country, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. This program promotes police-community partnerships to help create safe and vibrant neighborhoods, and to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness.
Food and live entertainment will be provided by various Hollywood area businesses. Hollywood Station will be open for tours and several displays from the police department will be included. It has always been a fun evening and I hope to see you there.
